Echocardiogram

Echocardiogram (echo)

Information

This test is a safe and painless diagnostic procedure that uses high frequency sound waves (ultrasound waves) to take moving pictures of the heart. It looks at the heart size, valves and functions.

Ultrasound allows accurate measurements of the four chambers of the heart and valves and the flow of blood through the valves and major blood vessels to and from the heart.

ECG dots are placed on the chest and an ultrasound probe is used to obtain images to observe the blood flow through the valves and the contractibility of the heart.

This test is performed by our sonographer.
