Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitoring – Accurate blood pressure tracking

This test measures your blood pressure at regular intervals over 24 hours while you go about your normal activities. It provides a more accurate picture than a single reading in the clinic and helps diagnose conditions such as high blood pressure or monitor the effectiveness of treatment.

Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitoring

Why is it done?

Your doctor may recommend Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitoring (ABPM) if:

    • You have suspected high blood pressure that varies during the day.
    • Clinic readings are inconsistent or affected by “white coat” anxiety.
    • You need to monitor the effectiveness of blood pressure medication.
    • There is a need to assess your risk of heart disease or stroke

Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitoring

What to expect during the test

    • A small, portable monitor is fitted and connected to a cuff on your upper arm.
    • The cuff inflates automatically at set intervals (usually every 15–30 minutes during the day and less frequently at night).
    • You can continue normal daily activities, but you’ll be asked to keep your arm still during measurements.
    • After 24 hours, the device is returned for analysis, and your cardiologist will review the results to guide treatment.

At Riverina Cardiology, ABPM is offered as part of our comprehensive diagnostic services, ensuring patients receive accurate, timely care without the need to travel to metropolitan centres.
