Heartbug Monitor – Capturing symptoms as they happen

A Heartbug monitor is a small, portable device that records your heart’s electrical activity over a longer period—often several days or weeks. It is used when symptoms such as palpitations, dizziness, or fainting occur infrequently and may not be detected during a short ECG or Holter monitor test. The Heartbug monitor allows you to record your heart rhythm when symptoms happen, helping your doctor identify irregularities and plan the right treatment.

Why is it done?

Your doctor may recommend a Heartbug monitor if:

    • You experience occasional symptoms that are hard to capture during short-term monitoring.
    • Previous tests (ECG or Holter) did not show abnormalities, but symptoms persist.
    • You need long-term monitoring to confirm or rule out arrhythmias.

What to expect during the test

    • The device is small and easy to carry, so you can continue normal daily activities.
    • When you feel symptoms, you simply press a button to record your heart’s activity.
    • Data is securely transmitted for analysis, allowing your cardiologist to review results promptly.

At Riverina Cardiology, Heartbug monitoring is offered as part of our comprehensive diagnostic services, ensuring regional patients have access to advanced technology without the need to travel to metropolitan centres.
