Holter Monitor – Continuous heart rhythm monitoring

A Holter monitor is a small, wearable device that records your heart rhythm continuously over 24–48 hours. It helps detect irregular heartbeats that may not appear during a short ECG. This test is useful if you experience symptoms like fainting, palpitations, or unexplained dizziness.

Why is it done?

Your doctor may recommend a Holter monitor if:

    • You have symptoms that occur intermittently, such as palpitations or fainting
    • An ECG did not show any abnormalities, but symptoms persist
    • You need long-term monitoring to assess treatment effectiveness

What to expect during the test

    • Small electrodes are placed on your chest and connected to a portable monitor
    • You will wear the device for 24–48 hours while going about your normal activities
    • You may be asked to keep a diary of symptoms and activities during the test
    • After the monitoring period, the device is returned for analysis

At Riverina Cardiology, Holter monitoring is offered in rooms as part of our comprehensive diagnostic services.
